This week in Ash Class, we've had a class full of keen Scientists! We are learning about 'States of Matter' and have discovered what solids, liquids and gases are. We've used our bodies to act out how the particles behave in each state, and yesterday we had a great afternoon exploring the best temperature for melting chocolate! We made predictions before running a practical investigation timing how long a piece of chocolate took to melt in different temperatures of water. Have a look at our photos below. Meanwhile, we've reached the end of our 'Decimals' unit in Maths and have written a class version of 'Bill's New Frock' in English. Next week is the last week of term - how did that sneak up on us?
In Ash Class this week, we've enjoyed a lot of active learning! As part of our 'Climate Zones' topic in Geography, the children completed some large world map jigsaws and learnt some valuable teamwork skills. We've also managed to make the most of the dry weather and have been outside as much as possible! We took our French lesson outside, have completed plenty of 'Daily dashes' and to round off the week, today we had the opportunity to take part in a Cross Country event organised by OCRA. I'm very proud of all the children for their efforts and the support and encouragement shown to their friends was heartwarming. Everybody got a clap and cheer when they finished, right up until the last person had crossed the finish line. Well done Ash! 🏆
I would like to say a big well done to everyone in Ash for how well they have settled back into school and our usual routines. We've had a good week thinking about our wellbeing, catching up with friends and enjoying learning in the classroom again. See you next week!
World Book DayWe had a brilliant day yesterday celebrating World Book Day as a class. It was fantastic to see so many children in our class Google Meet dressed up as a book character and getting into the spirit of the day. Well done to everyone who had a go at the 'Toilet Roll Challenge' and repurposed a toilet roll into a book character. Have a look at some of these below! Well done!I want to say a huge well done to everyone in Ash Class who has persevered throughout this period of online learning. It's not been easy, but everyday the Google Classroom has been full of the hard work that the children have produced. They should all be proud of what they have achieved. Return to schoolI am really looking forward to seeing everyone again on Monday when we return to school. Please remember to wear school uniform (with extra layers if cold), bring own resources in a pencil case and bring a labelled water bottle. PE is Friday so PE kit will need to be worn to school then.
See you on Monday! This first week back seems to have flown by! Well done to all the children who have jumped straight back into the online learning with enthusiasm and commitment. As always, it's been lovely to see them and speak to them in our online meetings. I look forward to seeing them back in the classroom soon!
This week, we have continued learning about fractions in Maths with a focus on how to add and subtract fractions. In English, we've been thinking about 'Amazing Aliens' and learning how to construct quality sentences using different features such as conjunctions or fronted adverbials. Some children have tried really hard with their computing this week and have been able to design and create their own websites - well done to those who persevered with this! In Art, I have seen some photos of some great 'shape houses' inspired by the work of the architect, Le Corbusier. Finally, in PSHE, we've learnt what 'diversity' means, how the UK is a diverse country and why it should be celebrated. Have a read of two acrostic poems written along this theme. Have a great weekend everybody and enjoy this beautiful Spring sunshine. See you next week, Miss Radbourne. Happy Half Term! We've made it to half term! This week, we've continued our learning about fractions in Maths. It has proved a little tricky at times but the children have persevered and overcome some misconceptions. We will be continuing with this unit after half term. I've really enjoyed reading the different versions of 'The Impossibly Possible Bookshop' in English - it's always great when the children are free to use their imagination to create characters and settings - we had some fantastically creative goblin characters!
I am hugely proud of all of the children in Ash Class for their hard work, positive attitudes and dedication from when we started this blended online learning in January right through to today. They have mastered how to use Google Classroom and become online experts! I've been so impressed by the quality of work produced and the effort put in and it's been genuinely lovely to see everyone's smiling faces in our daily Google Meets. A huge thank you also to all parents, carers and siblings for all of the support given at home, particularly when you are juggling your own work and lives at the same time. Have a lovely half term and I hope you all manage to have a good rest - I certainly plan to! Miss Radbourne. ![]() I've loved seeing everyone's Dress to Express outfits today! What a great end to Children's Mental Health Week. We had children in their favourite colours, their sports kits, dance outfits and even pyjamas. It was really lovely to speak to them in our morning Google Meet and hear them explain their choice of outfit and how it expressed something about themselves or their personality. Thank you to the girls who performed dances live on camera for us this morning - how wonderful that they felt confident enough to share their way of expressing themselves with us. As we look ahead to next week, the final week of this half term, I want to once again say a huge well done to the children. Even if they are getting tired, they continue to try their best with the online learning and I am so proud of them all. Next week, we've got some more fractions in Maths, writing a version of The Impossibly Possibly bookshop in English and there are lots of fun activities in store for the afternoons. I've seen some great artwork this week - designing and creating mandalas. Have a look at some examples in the photos. Enjoy the weekend and see you all next week! Miss Radbourne. Well here we are again at the end of another week in lockdown. This week, I'd like to say a big well done to everybody for embracing the challenges of remote learning but still working hard and embracing it all! I have really enjoyed reading the children's Inventor Portfolios this week. Not only did I see some fantastically interesting writing, there was also some super presentation on show. Have a look at the photos below to see some examples. Next week, we will be starting a new unit of work in English based on a story called 'The Impossibly Possible Bookshop' as well as a new unit of work in Maths on fractions. We've continued to enjoy our twice daily Google Meets and have settled into a good routine with these. We spend the morning meeting going over the work for the day and children can ask any initial questions they have. They then go away and have a go at the work. If they need support, they can drop me a message on Google Classroom and I can join them in a Google Meet to provide some help. Our afternoon meeting is for sharing our work from the day, playing a game and sharing a story together. It has been really lovely to see so many children joining these meetings and I hope it continues. Will you be doing the RSPB Big Garden Birdwatch this weekend? See the PDF for information and please send me some photos if you do! ![]()
What a great week of online learning we've had! In Maths, I've been really impressed with the perseverance and positive attitude from all of the children throughout our unit on Multiplication and Division. Even when they found it tricky, they kept going! Next week, we start a new unit of work on Area. In English, we have been looking at non-fiction texts from the book 'How to Invent' and next week children will be choosing an inventor to research and write about. We've had some great learning in Science this week all about electricity. This topic continues next week when the children will investigate conductors and insulators, plus consider how much we rely on electricity.
It's been really lovely to see so many of Ash Class at our daily meetings, I love seeing everyone's faces and saying hello! Do keep joining these, even if you can only make one a day. From next week, the whole school assembly is moving to a Wednesday morning at 11:00am so we won't have a Google Meet then, but we will have one Friday morning instead. Make sure you get outside this weekend - the weather forecast for tomorrow is looking beautiful! Take a break from those screens and go and enjoy yourselves. Happy weekend, Miss Radbourne We've reached the end of our second week of home learning! Another massive well done to all of the children for their super engagement and effort with their learning. I've been so pleased with the work you've been submitting. In Maths, we've learnt how to do short multiplication, we're making strides with division and will continue this next week. In English, I've seen some fantastic writing based on the legend of Beowulf. Have a look at these great sentences!
He arrived at the building. It looked as if a bomb had exploded. Broken windows, the door was hanging by a tiny piece of wood and the roof had fallen off! As he entered, he saw the beast... It was awaking. - Lola Beowulf rose while the monster loped towards him like a cat, licking his lips and breathing fire out of his nose. - Jack Some heroic gentleman came down to the village and one by one they tried to defeat the monster. Although none of those people had succeeded, he knew there would be someone out there who could... - Charlie It's been great to see so many of you joining our twice daily Google Meets. We will continue with the same times next week. 9:15am for a morning meeting where I will go through the day's work and clear up any misconceptions from the day before. We will then meet at 2:30pm for sharing our learning and story time. This only changes on a Friday when we have out 10.30am school assembly and our 2.30pm Saints Southwest live PE session. It was super to see you all exercising and keeping fit today! Have a lovely weekend and I will see you all next week! |
