Happy Thursday everyone.
We are at the end of what has been a very busy 4 day week for the children - lots of writing, using the Shirley Hughes text, The Lion and the Unicorn as inspiration. Also this week... we have been working hard on our English writing task of writing in role as an evacuee. The children have really used the skill of empathy to put themselves in the mindset of somebody being evacuated and the emotions that they would be experiencing. To facilitate this, we used a drama technique called Conscience Alley, which the children found really powerful, as it helped them to get into the mindset of the character and the questions that they would be asking themselves at that point in the story. Their writing has been emotive to read and I know that Shirley Hughes would be proud to add it to her book. On Monday, the class looked at Human Anatomy in Science with Mrs Nuthall, as well as creating a description of the walled garden from our English text, using ambitious vocabulary. We worked on our athletics skills in P.E. in preparation for Sports Day next week, and showed off our reading skills when exploring our new class book Poems from a Green and Blue Planet - this week focusing on proverbs and the imagery that poets create through the language that they use. In Maths, we have focused on Money and Time this week, so please talk to your children about time and share reading the time with them. Today, we learnt the following rhyme to help us remember the amount of days each month has: Thirty days hath September, April, June, and November, All the rest have thirty-one, Except February, twenty-eight days clear, And twenty-nine in each leap year. An oldie but a goodie! We finished the week with art, the children used the artistic technique of perspective to add depth to the landscapes that they will create in the style of Cezanne and add paint to next week. (See photos). As always, please read with and practise times tables with your children.. Please practise, sing, talk about and chant times tables as often as you can as this makes such a difference to our children's fluency and ability to solve problems quickly. Next week, we have a busy week, with P.E. on Tuesday - all day as it's Sports Day and Friday. We will continue to explore our excellent English text The Lion and the Unicorn and Mrs Nuthall will continue our Geography topic of Natural resources and our Science topic of Human Anatomy. Don't forget that this weekend (Saturday 29th June 11.00-5.00), sees our PTA - FONTS presenting FONTs Fest. This will be a brilliant community event, with lots of activities and entertainment available. Please buy a ticket and come along to support FONTs as they do such an excellent job of raising vital funds to support educational experiences and projects that benefit our children. Have a great weekend, see you on Saturday, if not, Monday. Mr F Happy Friday everyone.
