Friday again already! We have been enjoying playdough, Lego, magnetic construction, junk modelling and pencil drawing. This week to mark 'Remembrance Day' we created our own poppies using paint and made large poppy broaches with card, glue and tissue paper. - Thank you to everyone who contributed to the poppy appeal.
The outside learning space is slowly coming together, the children are very excited for the completion and we are all looking forward to getting back to our grass area. Next Friday (19th November) is 'Children in Need' appeal, the children are welcome to come to nursery in a dressing up outfit and a money donation is welcome. Thought of the week - If you see someone without a smile... give them one of yours :) Have a nice weekend! EY Team... Welcome back Acorns! It's been another busy week in EY. We have been finding out about Divali and why we have fireworks on November 5th. Divali is an five day celebration of light that is celebrated by the Hindu community around the world.
Throughout the week the children have made their own Diva's (candle holders) using clay as well as decorating them with glitter glue, they will come home with your child throughout next week. This afternoon we have tried a selection of Asian food. The children have also created wonderful 'Firework' paintings with toilet tubes and paint or pva glue and glitter while expressing such joy when telling us about the firework displays they have been to or are going to. Our outside learning space is growing... Yay! We can't wait for it to be finished and start to enjoy it. Quote of the week - "Play is our brains favourite way of learning." Enjoy the fireworks display this weekend if you are heading out to see them, stay safe. We look forward to seeing you next week! The Early Years Team :) Our first half term has flown by, we have got to know our new environment and new friend. Our first topic has been
'All about me' and over the last few weeks we have been discovering what makes us unique, new beginnings, people who help us in our community, our feelings and managing them, our families, homes and what super hero powers are and what we can do with them. During this week we have been creating Autumn homes, making emergency vehicles, writing letters, learning about people who help us in an emergency and enjoying the great outdoors! Thought for the week - Play is the work of childhood. It has been so lovely getting to know the children and families of North Tawton school. Have a lovely half term everyone. Karen and EY team The evil pea has been up to no good! He tied up a poor carrot and celery stick to the window and then we found him in our counting jar on Wednesday morning. our activities this week have included Potato printing, cutting and drawing peas, making and squashing peas. After reading the story of the week 'Supertato' we discussed what super powers we might have and how we could save the day.....
"If I was Supertato and someone fell in the water I would save them" "I would be a fly bird" "I would be a car superhero and save everyone that crashed" Thought of the week - It's a happy talent to know how to play This week we have been building houses, making glasses with small construction, mark making on our new easel, caring for babies, creating our own colour Monsters and moving into a box house. We have also been reading the story 'Supertato' and talking about what super powers we might have. During forest school we have been working hard planting a willow tunnel, rope climbing and zip wire sliding!
Thought for the week - Play is the work of children, It's very serious stuff. Have a lovely weekend, Nursery team. The weather has been wet and windy this week but it hasn't stopped the little acorns from exploring outside. We have been tree rubbing, mud sliding, building Dinosaur houses and making mud cakes in the mud kitchen.
When the rain drops were to big we spent time inside the school hall using equipment to help us jump, crawl, roll and balance as well as enjoying new nursery toys that have been arriving throughout the week. We are often outside doing forest school activities and do get very muddy! Wet weather clothes are very useful if you can bring them on your child's nursery sessions. Thought for the week - Play is the highest form of research. Enjoy the weekend, Nursery Team. It has been another fun filled week exploring and creating inside and out. Along with drawing a self portrait and writing our names we have used natural props to build faces and animals. The playdough came in useful when some children worked together to make funny faces. our mud kitchen continues to grow and our outside learning space is changing daily. The children have also been exploring feelings and what colour they might be with the help of the 'Colour Monster' story book.
Thought for the week "Children learn as they play. Most importantly, in play they learn how to learn". Happy Friday! We have had such a good time getting to know our new friends and nursery environment this week. Exploring, discovering, and adventuring inside and out!
We are now enjoying time with Oak class as well and sharing our learning spaces across the EY unit. It has been lovely seeing the children explore the outside area and some were wondering if a bear lives there! Next week we will be creating images of our selves on paper and attempting to write our names. Please remember a healthy snack for your child to enjoy during our morning story time. Have a lovely weekend and see you all next week. This week we have continued to learn about the Olympics and Sports. Acorns have enjoyed plenty of sports activities where we have explored different movements ranging from slithering and zig zagging to running and jumping safely on our obstacle courses. As well as this we have been moving our bodies, copying actions from Jumpstart Johnny and Go Noodle videos.
In Maths we have been learning about prepositions, using interactive games, story time with 'We're Going on a Bear Hunt', an obstacle course, and the children are using descriptive words for where an item is e.g. underneath, on top, next to. We have begun to look at blending simple three lettered words with our fabulous phonic sounds e.g 'c,a,t' and 'b,a,t'. We have also enjoyed some super creative activities such as making olympic torches and exploring painting with the Olympic ring colours. Ending our week with some water fun, ring games and singing. Here are some pictures of the fun we have been having ... This week at Nursery we have been having lots of fun with our Olympic and Sports theme. The children all enjoyed getting creative by using the correct colours to create a tissue paper collage of the Olympic Rings, Olympic Ring Biscuits and making there own Medals. We have enjoyed measuring with water containers, letting cars go down a ramp and seeing how far they travelled, and counting up to 10 whilst jumping along our long jump lines.
The children were able to slithering between chairs and underneath the Olympic Ring hola hoops, jumping down from our gymnastic box (onto a safety mat) and taking part in races with hola hoops, throwing bean bags and an egg and spoon race. The children have also watched a video of a child gymnast showing them some moves practised in a safe and controlled manner, and then they practised their movements with Go Noodle and Jumpstart Johnny exercise. Here's some pictures of all the fun... It's been very busy 'Well Done!' |
