Our topic of 'Adventures in time' has continued this week and we have been finding out all about space travel, the solar system and planet Earth.
One child in Acorn class knows all about the stars in the night sky... "Did you know Astronauts plant stars in the sky, they fly and land on the moon" "Did you know there is a big digger in the sky?" (adult) "No, they use spades" When we talked about what you might need if you travelled into space the children had some really good ideas Sandwiches and a drink clothes Boots A helmet and, a rocket blasting off sounds just like popcorn in the microwave. thought for the week - One does not argue about the wind in the willows. Have a lovely half term everyone, EY team Hello all,
It's been a while since our last post and lots has been going on in nursery. Thank you to everyone who remembered forest school clothing last week; it was so lovely to all be outside together and we enjoyed getting muddy, swinging, climbing, balancing, sliding and exploring! We have been noticing signs of Spring popping up around school and learning how to take care of flowers when they are inside. To celebrate Chinese new year we made lantern's, practiced Chinese writing using fine brushes and water colour paint, made playdough pockets for coins and learnt to use chop sticks. There have been cosy moments with friends and crazy moments with Jumpstart Jonny. A little reminder to please return any nursery clothes that have been borrowed, we are running very low. Thought for the week - A grubby child is the sign of a really good day. See you all next week. Did you know that Pirates eat biscuit's and drink lemonade?!
They also climb rope ladders and to reach the top of their ship and look for land! Acorn children have been imagining what else Pirates get up to, making eye patches and telescopes and finding treasure. The decking has busy with sand play and new construction toys have arrived for our inside learning space. Please remember forest school has moved to Friday afternoon this term and wellie boots are need for all children. Thought for the week - Play is training for the unexpected. Have a lovely weekend, Karen and the team. It's been a frosty fun time in Nursery this week, even on the coldest of mornings we have been able to get out onto our decking and enjoy learning outside!
The children have been working together to build see saws, cannons, balancing and blasting off to the moon and dinosaur land! The mud kitchen has been well used for making dinosaur food and the decking has been decorated with chalks and glitter. We have been finding out all about Dinosaurs, when they were on Earth, what they eat, how big they were and how they changed into fossils. Next week we will continue our topic 'Adventures through time' and focus on pirates from the past. Thought for the week - There are no seven wonders of the world in a child's eyes. There are seven million. Happy Friday! It has been a fantastic first week back in Early Years, we are delighted that our outside learning space is finished and the children are already enjoying it.
REMINDERS - 1. Friday Afternoon is Forest School so please ensure that your child comes equipped with appropriate outside clothing and footwear. It's muddy out there! 2. Many thanks, EY Team. Wishing all our families a nice warm cosy Christmas and a Merry New Year!
Looking forward to welcoming you all back on Wednesday 5th January 2022! Lots of love, Early Years Team :) This week in Nursery we’ve had three elves come to visit. They have been rather cheeky as they appeared through a magical green door and made their way to our Christmas tree we decorated last week.
‘Sparkle’ and ‘‘Tinsel’ trapped ‘Snowflake’ in the paper towel dispenser! Oh no… All three elves also wrapped toilet roll around the Christmas tree. Unfortunately, they had to disappear on Wednesday as the children weren’t using their listening elf ears, walking feet, or kind elf like hands so they returned to ‘The North Pole’ reporting back to “Santa Christmas” “Father Christmas”. The elves left a magical letter on Lucy’s iPad to tell the children that they’ll return if they use their, ears, hands, and feet properly. “You need to use your listening elf ears.” “That’s what Santa tells me.” - Sparkle Another festive week of dancing, singing, playing, and exploring. Christmas Joke of the week - What is a Christmas Tree’s favourite candy? …. Orna-Mints! Ha haha Many thanks, EY Team :) What a festive week it has been - opening our fantastic toy advent calendar each day, decorating our tree, cutting and decorating glitter stars, and dancing along to Christmas music.
This week we have watched 'The snowman' and 'The Snowdog' and the children have been working very hard to make some Christmas surprises for you all... shhhh! Thought of the week - It's not what's under the Christmas tree that matters it's who around it.. Have a lovely weekend. Early years team :) Another week over already! Nursery children have been finding out all about animals that hibernate during the winter and where they might sleep. We have created leaf collages and threaded leaf bunting to decorate our windows. Some of the children have been spending time writing their names, enjoying moments together in our 'home corner' at the new light table, caring for our babies, and problem solving with new wooden construction.
Next Friday is Christmas Jumper Day (3rd December), all the children are welcome to come to Nursery dressed in something festive. Thought of the week - "Children see magic because they look for it." Happy Friday from the Early Years Team! :) We have been very creative in Nursery this week. The children have made hedgehog paintings using forks instead of brushes, we mixed Autumn colours for free choice painting and on Thursday we made binoculars to use on a colour hunt around the school grounds visiting the Trim Trail once again.
During carpet times we have shared our thoughts about Autumn and learnt some new things. What happens in Autumn...? "The leaves have changed colours, yellow and orange, and brown leaves." "It gets cold and the flowers don't come out. Some crunchy leaves." "The leaves fall off and when the leaves fall off in the road a car comes along and they dance around and go whoosh!" The end of the week has been fun filled with dressing up in aid of 'Children in Need' and lots of dancing! Thought of the week - Learning can happen anywhere not just in the classroom. Have a lovely weekend. See you next week, Early Years Team :) |
