What a lovely start to our last half term, time flies when your having fun...
We have started a new topic 'ready, steady, go' and have been exploring travel ideas of where to go and how to get there as well as discovering 25 wonders of the natural world. The book 'You choose' has given ideas of transport methods and the children have created their own using 2D shapes. Forest school was great fun working in teams to build camps. Sometimes we have a snooze.. Zzz. Thought for the week - 'It is never too early to begin to explore the world' Happy weekend, EY team. ...Scroll down for CAKE! It's been a lovely week in Acorn class. We've been finding about the Queen, where she lives, what music she might listen to, her crown, and how long she's been out Queen. Bunting has been decorated, portraits drawn and crowns made... As well as a lot of Red, White, and Blue.. we have also been writing, counting, planting beans, painting with vegetables, and spending time in our big garden.
Thought for the week: It's worth remembering that it is often the small steps, not the giant leaps that bring about the most lasting change - 'Queen Elizabeth II' We hope you enjoy your Half Term Holiday and we look forward to seeing you back Tuesday 7th June. Acorn children have been watching the growth and change of our sunflower seeds, comparing each others height and thinking about what we might turn into when we get bigger... A Horse, A Pig, A Rainbow unicorn and a firefighter were a few ideas. We have created flower pictures using 2D shapes and playing with lots of fine motor activities to make our little fingers strong for drawing and writing.
Reminder - Sun hats and sun cream please. Thought for the week - From a tiny seed comes a mighty Oak. A week filled with exploring and learning about things that grow..... We grow, seeds grow, flowers grow and imagination grows. We started with making bio pots to plant a sunflower seed and discussed and sequenced the life of a seed. At circle time we created and shared stories using story stones. Outside we have been doing lots of digging in our new dig patch and challenged ourselves on the balancing frames along with bug hunting, climbing trees and spotting Bumble bees on flowers.

The children have been creative decorating Easter eggs with paint and cotton buds, making play dough eggs and decorating them with gems and cutting and sticking bunnies and chicks. We have also been spending time together playing table top games based around supermarket shopping, healthy eating and picnic's, this inspired us to write shopping lists and plan dinner, one child even offered to cook me a 'chicken dinner'! Thought for the week - What do you call the Easter Bunny the Monday after Easter? Egg - hausted! Have a lovely half term everyone, Karen and the team. Another busy week in nursery. We have been team building and working together with our construction toys, sorting by size and colour, going on a 2D shape hunt around school, finishing our circle art display and so much more!
Remember to hand in any Easter egg designs by Wednesday, they have been sent home in your child's bag over the last few days. Thought for the week - 'its fun to have fun but you have to know how' It has been a lovely week in nursery, we have been making crafts for mothers and special grown ups. Along with recognising 2D shapes in art and the environment the children have created their own circle art works inspired by the artist Kandinsky. The children have been challenging themselves when climbing and balancing on our new equipment, the mud kitchen has been busy and the decking a cool place to be on sunny afternoon.

This week we have been looking at 'The Three Billy Goats Gruff' and the children have built bridges out of different construction toys, playing with musical instruments and using the new potion pots to fill up with our new indoor water tray. At the end of the week we adventured out to the big field to run around and we even explored the Trim Trail. The children played various games on the field, farmers in the den, what's the time Mr Wolf? and football. Thank you Oak children for our tasty gingerbread men.. The children on friday afternoon had a yummy gingerbread man biscuit with their afternoon milk. Happy Red Nose Day. Joke Of The Day - Why can't Elsa hold a balloon? ...Because she'll let it go! Why can't you tell an egg a joke? ...It'll crack up. What do you call a sleeping dinosaur? ... A Dino-snore! How do you get a squirrel to like you? ...Act like a nut! Reminder - Please keep toys at home as some children can get emotional when loosing a toy.. 'Your in charge of you.' Many thanks, Nursery Team. In nursery this week we have been very creative. We started the week making still life pictures of daffodils using pens and ended the week painting and creating a bean stalk to add to our wall display. we have been building castles with blocks in the sand, drawing giants and writing words that describe him. We also found time to paint bean stalks and order plants in size. On the decking the children build a bus for a pigeon to drive and transported each other around in a carriage fit for a Princess!
Thought for the week - Where flowers bloom so does hope. Happy weekend, EY team! Another busy week in nursery has flown by! At the beginning of the week we had a pancake tasting session, we have had a dress up day to celebrate world book day and we ended with forest school. We have also managed to squeeze in the start of our new topic 'Once Upon A Time' with stories of Jack and the Bean Stalk and The Three Billy Goats.
The children have been problem solving and working together while puzzle building, sharing stories, writing names, sorting and counting, mixing sand mousse and so so much more. Quote for the week - If you want your child to be intelligent read them fairy tales - Albert Einstein |
