Hi Everyone
Hope you are well. It has been another lovely week here. The children have really impressed us with their attitudes and hard work, as ever. This week, we have read the Rainforest Rough Guide and started to think about all the features and conventions of writing in the book that we will need when we write our page of a guidebook. We have finished our learning on time but will continue to practise telling the time to the nearest minute as many of the children still need some support with this. We will now start to look at angles in shapes. We have finished our coding lessons in computing. The children can now sequence code to make a musical instrument with the computer keyboard. In Life Skills, we have started our work on relationships by looking at friendships. We have also revised the correct names for all our body parts and looked at the Pants rule again. In science, we have been learning about producers. Next week, we are continuing the Rainforest Rough Guide by starting to write a diary. We will continue our learning about angles in maths and ecosystems in science by learning about food chains. Hope you have a good weekend and enjoy the rest of your week. Miss Keen Hi Everyone
It has been a beautiful week with the weather. The children have invented and written their own Greek myths this week. I have really enjoyed reading them. They have been busy adding lots of exciting details and have also been really careful with their punctuation and spelling. In maths, we have continued our unit on time and started to learn to tell the time to the nearest minute and how to use the 24 hour clock. In computing, we have been learning how to sequence commands in Scratch and we will use this knowledge to create a piece of music next week. Next week, we are going to start reading Rainforest Rough Guide for English which will link to our science on ecosystems. We are carrying on swimming and will be finishing our computing. Thank you, as ever, for your support. Miss Keen and the Year 3 Team Hi Everyone
I can't believe this is the children's last half term! They have all matured and grown so much. We still have a lot to pack in! In English, this week the children wrote a longer piece of writing about their myth character. I have really enjoyed reading their descriptions of their character. Next week, they are going to write their own myth with their characters featuring in it. The children have found some really ambitious words to describe their characters this week and I'm looking forward to them using those next week. In maths, we have started telling the time. The children should be able to tell the time to the nearest minute so I have set them a challenge and will give two Dojos to anyone who can do this! We have started a new unit all about ecosystems in science. We looked at a freshwater pond but will also be looking at the rainforest and other ecosystems. Please keep reading, practising spellings and times tables. We have lots of exciting things happening this term: music concert, sports day etc so keep a look out for dates on Dojo. Have a great Friday and weekend! Miss Keen and the Year 3 Team Hi Everyone
I hope you are well and looking forward to the half term and Diamond Jubilee Celebrations. The children have had a short but busy half term. They had done really well with swimming and lots of children are showing really improved water confidence. They are busy designing their own characters to create a myth in English. In maths, we are telling the time. Please let me know of any amazing telling the time to the nearest minute and I will reward it with a Dojo. It is skill they just need to practise a lot. We had an amazing storyteller in for history this week. The children were really engaged and asked lots of interesting questions. Next term, so much to look forward to: class trip, sports day, a French play and much more! Have a great Friday and half term. Thank you for all your support. Miss Keen and the Year 3 team Hi Everyone I had trouble with the internet and my computer last week so sorry this is a bit late. The children have started to look at the Myth Atlas in English and use their knowledge of Greek Gods and Goddesses to begin to write about Gods and Goddesses. We are designing our own Gods and Goddesses. We are nearly completing our fractions learning and will finish it before half term. In science, we continued to observe our plants growing and we learnt about flowering plants and the plants life cycle. I have included two children's learning below. I'm really impressed with the children who are completing their reads and more children had extra play this week. Looking to see how many will get it after half term... Thanks, as ever, for all your support. Miss Keen and the Year 3 Team Hi
I had a very enjoyable evening yesterday reading all the children's amazing stories which were based on our class story of Grendel: A Cautionary Tale About Chocolate. The children have all made great progress. As well as making their stories really exciting, I'm particularly impressed at their use of inverted commas for speech. Next week, we will have a lesson on turning part of this into a scene from a play. In maths, the children have been learning about tenths and how to record them in decimals and fractions. We are continuing with fractions next week. In history, we learned some facts about Greek philosophers by sorting them in our groups (see below) and we also learned about what people in Ancient Greece believed. The children have been thinking about setting themselves goals in life skills and we were recording the progress of our plants in science as well as learning about the flowering parts of a flower. Next week, we are starting a new book in English called Myth Atlas and continuing our learning about fractions. Hope you have a great rest of your week. Miss Keen and the Year 3 Team Hi Everyone
It has been a short week with the bank holiday and I can't believe it is Thursday already. In English, we have started our first draft of our stories based on Grendel which is a version of the King Midas myth. The children are working really hard on remembering to add inverted commas when the characters are speaking which is pretty tricky! In maths, we have begun our second unit of fractions. We have been looking at tenths this week and will start to relate tenths recorded as fractions to tenths recorded as decimals. The children have really impressed me by beginning to use words like denominator and numerator to discuss fractions. We have continued to read about Ancient Greece in our reading time. During Life Skills, we have been learning all about jobs and looking at stereotypes. This afternoon, we are looking forward to going swimming. I have included a photo of the plants which are part of a science investigation that the children have set up. Thank you for the jam jars. We are going to grow broad beans in these. Photos will follow! Ms Penny came into class this week and she was extremely pleased by the fantastic behaviour and attitudes of the children. Next week, we are continuing to learn about plants in science. We will learn more about Ancient Greece starting with Gods and Goddesses. We will write our own version of the Grendel story and learn more about fractions. Thank you for your support. Miss Keen and the Year 3 Team Hi Everyone
The children have had a great return to school. We have been very busy this week reading Grendel: A Cautionary Tale About Chocolate and comparing it to the myth of King Midas. Next week, we will start to write our own stories using direct speech and inverted commas. In history, we have started learning about the Ancient Greeks. We have learnt about city states and different forms of government. In maths, we are continuing with fractions and will start looking at tenths next week. Thank you for all the jars that have come in so far. Next week. we are going to start growing some plants for our science topic this term about plants. Thank you also for all the swimming kits. The children had a successful first week and we will continue with swimming next week. It is so nice to be able to get out of school again and we are planning a trip for this term. I will send a Dojo to launch the new reading rewards which the children have voted on. This will start next week. Hope you have a good Friday and a good weekend. Miss Keen and the Year 3 Team Hi Everyone
It is so windy today! I'm hoping we get some better weather for Easter. The children have demonstrated some great reasoning in fractions and are beginning to get to grips with understanding how to record and calculate fractions. Everyone has a cake to take home and they should know now how to share this equally... Fingers crossed you get an equal slice! They have made an Easter card and have written their haiku or part of it in it! We have finished learning about branching databases and how to use them in the real world. In Life Skills, we are continuing to learn how to stay online. There are some photos of this and fractions work with this blog. A massive well done to the children for all their hard work this term. They have really risen to the challenge. They have fantastic behaviour and everyone who comes into the class says how great they are. We are launching our new reading competition after the holidays to inspire the children. Please keep reading over the holidays. We really hope you have a great holiday. Miss Keen and the Year 3 Team Hi Everyone
We have had a really busy week completing assessments in reading and maths. The children have showed in their maths how they are starting to master column method independently and they have really applied themselves to every question. The challenge really rises in KS2 and they have done admirably. They should be really proud of themselves. You will see a lot of Dojos going on! The children have written their geography essay focusing on what causes volcanic eruptions and earthquakes. They know about tectonic plates and we have discussed the Ring of Fire. Ms Boyce has also taught them earthquakes drills so they are all prepared should we have one...! In computing, the children can write yes/no questions and make a branching database. I'm sure they will be able to show you. We used the playground and some chalk to sort our class by our different attributes. In Life Skills, we investigated Fake News and thought about how we can spot it. Next week, we are looking forward to making our own branching databases. We will be writing a haiku and getting further into our maths work on fractions. Hope you have a good rest of the week and weekend. Miss Keen |
