Hi Everyone,
Hi Everyone,
Hi everyone, We have been thinking a lot about the presentation of our learning this week to make sure it is neat. The children have risen to the challenge and their new books are looking very smart. We are continuing to learn about three-digit numbers in maths. We have been placing them on a number line and learning how to use place value counters. We have started our unit on biographies by reading about Henri Matisse. In science, the children really enjoyed showing each other their materials and we talked about what different materials are used for. In PE, we have been continuing to practise our footwork and been learning how to throw accurately. In Life Skills, we have started learning about families. For Art we have been learning about tints and shades, we used this for the inspiration for our abstract Christmas cards. We continued learning about the creation story in RE. In Music we have been practising Harvest songs ready for the harvest festival next month. We can now introduce ourselves in French and use the phrase J'ai besoin which means 'I need'. What a busy week! We hope you have a lovely weekend. Year 3 Team “My favourite thing this week was Art. I enjoyed mixing the paint and making different tints and shades of purple.” “My favourite thing was PE. We had a competition throwing bean bags in to hoops and then we played connect 4 with them.” Hi Everyone
The children have been working really hard on being ready to learn this week and using every minute of their learning time effectively. We are feeling very proud. We are continuing our learning of place value in Maths. We are now beginning to work with three-digit numbers and using equipment like Base 10 to make them. We have started writing our own poems about a painting that we have chosen. In science, we completed a materials hunt and started to think about variables in experiments. In PE, we have been learning all about side-stepping and pivoting. We have been discussing the Christian creation story this week in RE. We discussed the order and importance of each step. There were some excellent ideas. I especially liked a question from Ross, who wondered what came before God. In Art we have been creating Christmas card designs ready for printing. In Music we have been learning about rhythm and pulse, forte and piano. We have been singing and playing the glockenspiels. Hope you have a good rest of your week and weekend. Year 3 Team Hi Everyone
I've been so impressed by the children this week. They have shown some really great learning behaviours especially when talking in front of the class and listening to each other. They are really off to a great start. We have started our place value unit in Maths. We have looked at two-digit numbers and we will start on three-digit numbers soon. We have been reading Paint Me A Poem in English. It is a book of poems inspired by paintings and sculptures written by Grace Nichols. The children have been reading poems, learning poems and will perform their poems to the class today (photos below). Next week, they will write their own poems. In computing, we have started looking at computer networks and in science, we have started learning about scientific investigations and materials. In PE, they have been learning all about teamwork and practising their ball skills. Hope you have a good rest of your week and weekend. Year 3 Team Hello Willow Class,
It was so lovely to welcome back Willow Class this week and we've been impressed with how motivated they are for Year 3. Today, we had a quiet time reflecting on yesterday’s sad news and learning about the life of Queen Elizabeth. The whole school has taken part in a memorial assembly rather than the usual praise assembly. In Maths, we reasoned with number bonds to ten, working in partners to solve a puzzle. In Art, we began to create a mixed media piece integrating the Union Jack with a portrait of Queen Elizabeth. We learnt the basic rules for drawing portraits. We've learnt how to introduce ourselves in French. The children have settled in very well and are getting used to new routines. We will send out spellings next week. Many children have been benchmarked for reading, but not all yet. Please make sure to read at home every day and practise times tables. Have a lovely weekend, Miss Boyce, Miss Keen and Ms Westcott Hi Everyone
It has been an absolute pleasure to teach your child this year. They have been thoughtful, curious, imaginative, eloquent, kind, caring and extremely hard-working! We have all enjoyed our year with them. I know they are more than ready for Year 4 and Ms Radbourne is very much looking forward to teaching them. This week, we have finished our Arctic Rough Guide page. We have completed our unit on weight and capacity as well as learning about how we measure temperature - very appropriately! We watched a climate change video for geography on the hottest day of the year and they have been working with a buddy to make their own code in Scratch. They have also learnt how to keep safe in the home and on water. They are very much looking forward to their nugget treat this afternoon which has been very well earned. Sadly, we are saying goodbye to Elodie. She will be very much missed and we wish her all the best in her new school. I would like to take this opportunity again to thank you for all your support and your children for such a great year. Please keep a bit of reading and times tables up (even just counting in 2s, 5s, 10s, 3s, 4s and 8s) as it will really help them next year. I hope you have a great summer. Miss Keen and the Year 3 Team Hi Everyone
It was really lovely to see so many people in the flesh at Sports Day. Thank you so much for coming. I have shared some photos on Dojo already but I will share some more next week. Hope Week has been a very busy week. On Monday, the children played French games in the hall with Madame Jordan. On Tuesday, we had science day where we looked at ecosystems and the children drew their own. We followed this on Wednesday with some art inspired by Jackson Pollack (very messy), a quick look at the BBC Symphony playing and a live lesson about volcanoes with some scenes from an actual volcano. We also got to meet a volcanologist. Today, we had a great Sports Day. I was really impressed with the children's spirit when they were taking part. Don't forget that tomorrow is the Music Concert. The children have been practising hard. Next week, the Rosemoor Trip is on Wednesday. We are looking forward to our workshop there and a look around the gardens. We are also having the transition morning on Thursday before swimming. Hope you have a good Friday and a good weekend. Thanks for all your support, as ever. Miss Keen Hi Everyone
I hope you are all well. We are praying from some drier weather for Sports Day next week. We have had a busy week completing our assessments. We have read a poem, story and non-fiction text in the reading paper. In maths, we have answered an arithmetic and a reasoning paper. The children have worked incredibly hard and really shown off all they know. We have continued our learning about properties of shapes by looking at right, acute and obtuse angles with our angle gobblers. In English, we have watched part of a documentary on polar bears in preparation for writing and we have been reading some books some of the children chose for us from the library van. We have learnt about weather and climate in geography and food chains in science. Next week is Hope Week. We look forward to a French Theatre visit on Monday. Tuesday is our science day and we will be completing a special art project on Wednesday. Thursday is Sports Day in the morning and swimming in the afternoon. The music concert is on Friday afternoon. It is going to be a busy and fun week! Hope you have a good rest of the week and weekend. Below is a picture of our water cycle demonstration. |
