In the Acorns class, we have been learning all about 'Space' as our topic for the past 2 weeks. We have had explored a range of activities and provocations linking to the topic. Some of the activities pictured and available to the children were:
* Drawing Rockets * Looking closely at the solar system * Building space rockets with the construction toys * Exploring puzzles * Ordering numbers to 5 * Exploring musical instruments * Creating some Paper mache Planets * Exploring the Nuts and bolts fine motor activities for our space ship The children have loved learning about space and have really enjoyed being creative with expressive arts and design activities. We received a new rug for the class room which has brightened up our space for carpet time and given us our own sitting spots. This has been brilliant for sharing space stories, circle time and for our daily phonics too. Some children have been continuing with home learning rather than returning to school. Following the activities web and home learning ideas sent home, these children have been really engaged in some fantastic activities and crafts. They have also been sharing pictures with us of what they have been up to and what they have created. We have loved seeing these and we are very proud of how you all have adapted to this new learning structure. In the four weeks now leading up to half-term, our wider curriculum topic in Reception is 'Autumn', with a focus on harvest, woodland animals and changes in the outdoor environment. We will be focussing on four key texts: The Little Red Hen, We're going on a Bear Hunt, Owl Babies and The Gruffalo.
This week, our learning has focussed on 'We're going on a bear hunt'. We have been on listening walks, collected natural resources for crafts and our sensory trays, and explored how different woodland animals move in a fun game. The children picked apples from the tree in our orchard, and made a yummy apple sauce. We also joined in with a special Harvest assembly with our local Reverend and have even planted our own cress seeds, ready to harvest soon. Here in the nursery the children (known as Acorns) play and learn alongside the reception children (known as Oaks) and together we form the foundation unit.

THE EARLY YEARS FOUNDATION STAGE CURRICULUM We work closely within the Primary school as a Foundation Stage Unit which means that for the majority of the day Nursery and Reception children play and learn together. Staff plan and work together to provide a fully differentiated curriculum with access for all of the children from 2-5 years. Our curriculum is guided by the government publication ‘Curriculum Guidance for the Foundation Stage’. The EYFS Curriculum sets the statutory standards that all early year providers must meet. It has a framework of 4 main principles;
The prime areas are:
Each area of learning and development is implemented through planned, purposeful play and through a mix of adult-led and child-initiated activity. Play is essential for children’s learning and development, building their confidence as they learn to explore, to think about problems, and relate to others. We respond to each child’s emerging needs and interests, guiding their development through warm, positive interaction. When planning and guiding the children’s activities, we continually reflect on the different ways we can support your child to remain an effective and motivated learner. |
