Happy Friday everyone! We have been busy this week and have started a new geography topic about earthquakes. We are looking at an explanation text called How stuff works and will be using it as a model for our own explanations about how earthquakes or severe weather events occur. We will begin a new maths focus on fractions next week. We have been talking and writing in French and have used Scratch to code. We have finally finished all our WW2 diaries and are looking forward to a theatre group visit about WW2 land girls when the lockdown ends. We have checked the guidance and risk assessments and we are able to go ahead with the bikeability training as planned week beginning 16th November. On Monday afternoon, we are having our nugget treat which is a class party with party games and snacks which I will bring in. If it is dry, they can also play in the orchard but they will need spare shoes or wellies as the grass is wet. They can bring a change of clothes for the afternoon. Have a great weekend everyone.

Hello everyone. It's the end of another busy week. We have been: writing war diaries; learning written methods for multiplication and division; learning about light and reflections to make periscopes; preparing and practising an assembly; playing tennis; playing the violin and having lots of fun at playtimes! We certainly cram a lot in to one week!! The children would like to present a short assembly to you on Monday morning to share some of this term's learning so far. Have a great weekend.
P.S. Today the children have brought home a prospectus from Okehampton College as well as a letter with information about Bikeability which is coming up in November. Please return the completed form as soon as possible. Happy Friday everyone. 🤗 Another busy week over, ending with a little bit of mindfulness today in amongst all the other important work. This week we made leaves of hope and painted our tree of hope - take a look at the pictures- I think it came out quite well. 🌳 We have started our science topic of light. Thank you for sending torches in, we will need them again on Monday. We have tried to prove that light travels in straight lines and we watched Matthew's brilliant homework project (a video) showing how shadows are formed and change using shadow puppets he made. We are enjoying our PE lessons with Mr Ansell. We will be drafting and writing our wartime diaries over the next couple of weeks as well as continuing to practise using the four operations in maths. Hope you enjoy the dry weather over the weekend 😊
Autumn has definitely arrived. The wet and windy weather has meant we have had to stop using the field and start sharing the ha d play spaces. Coats and warm clothes are a must! We have completed our WW2 topic with a quiz this week although we will continue to be using our knowledge through our writing lessons. Read Imogen's thoughtful letter inspired by the experiences of German Jewish refugees. We will begin our science topic of 'light' next week. It's good to see the children are still racing around the world in their reading challenge - Bill, our resident bookworm, has now reached Kenya and gets another 5 learning points! We are now onto using the four operations in maths and practising the formal written methods for each. Hope you have a great weekend. Congratulations to Ryan - Star of the week. Have a read of Imogen's super letter in role as a Jewish refugee during WW2.
Please join me for an overview of the year. I will be presenting information about the routines and expectations for year 6 and will answer any questions you have. Look forward to seeing you.
Jo Ware is inviting you to a scheduled Zoom meeting. Topic: Parents' information evening Time: Sep 30, 2020 04:00 PM London Join Zoom Meeting https://us02web.zoom.us/j/82349253300?pwd=dUhWMFFqamlvOEtvdnM5Ui9DRUh4QT09 Meeting ID: 823 4925 3300 Passcode: 2upHmm It's Friday again - already! This week we have been writing stories about hope and practising rounding numbers. May need a bit more practise on negative numbers! In history, we have found out about Kindertransport - the evacuation of Jewish refugee children from Germany and other countries during WW2. Today was European languages day, so we watched a live streamed lesson about pirates in French and danced along to some Spanish songs. We had the first of our Friday arithmetic challenges- we hope to improve a little every week. Homework is a 10minute reading and a 10minute grammar activity. The children also all have ten new personal spellings to learn. Please encourage those reluctant readers to read every day - it's really important for their learning across the curriculum. Some children really struggled with their ideas for stories and this is usually because they haven't read enough stories to get ideas from. Have a great weekend everybody. 😀👏👍
It's Friday again and the end of a busy week in Year Six. The children have worked very hard on baseline assessments as well as learning more about The Blitz and about the global effect of WW2 including how people from all over the Commonwealth came to Britain to help with the war effort. I have sent them home with their half termly topic homework which I will post on here too. If they would like to do any sort of project linked to our topics, I am more than happy for them to use their imagination. They can use Google Classroom and Google Docs or Google slides and send work to me electronically or bring it back into school for me to see and share with the class. Spellings will be tested every Friday and the weekly homework (maths place value this week) needs to be brought in on Friday when we'll go through it together. I hope you all have a great weekend.
We have had a really good start back to school and the children have been amazing! They have shown how resilient they are and have just taken everything in their stride. We have begun to knuckle down to work and the children have responded well. All children have ten spellings to practise in their reading folders and they should do some reading and times table rock stars practise for homework this week. Formal homework will begin next week. I hope you all have a great weekend - can't believe it's Friday already. Congratulations to Kenzie - our STAR of the week! ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐
It was lovely to see all the children back today and there are no worries in my "worry box" so hopefully everyone is feeling a little less anxious and ready to start work tomorrow. All children have brought home their reading diary and a reading book today, unless they're going to be reading a book from home. They must bring their reading book to school every day along with their reading diary. If this is a problem, they can have one book to read at home, which stays at home, and another book to read at school which stays at school. I expect them to read at home a little every day and there is a "reading miles challenge" in their reading diary which we have talked about today. Please look at the diary and its contents sometime this week with your child. Just a reminder that we will have PE on Friday morning and children should wear their PE kit to school I that day. Bring on day 2! 🤗
