Hello everyone,
We hope that you are all well and have had a good week. The main highlight for Year 2 this week has been completing our English teaching sequence 'The Bear and the Piano'. The children have worked extremely hard over the past few weeks, gaining new learning and have thoroughly enjoyed the story. To end the sequence, the children have drafted their own version of the story. They have taken time to carefully edit and improve their work. Finally, they have written up their version and published their writing carefully. The real highlight has been using their art and DT skills to turn their published story into a pop-up book page. All these pages are now being complied into a whole class pop-up book entitled 'The Animal Orchestra' and this will be a super testament to all their hard work. We hope the book will be ready next week, so please do look out for the pictures of the finished article! It will have pride of place on display in our classroom, so if you are in school next week, please feel free to have a read. Wishing you all a super weekend Mrs Murch and Mr Legg

Hello everyone,
It has been another very successful and positive week in year 2, with some super highlights! In English, children have enjoyed writing their own versions of 'The Piano and the Bear'. They have been working hard to use what they have been taught in their writing to make their sentences more detailed and interesting, especially thinking about how to use coordinating and subordination conjunctions to develop their compound sentences. They are really looking forward to next week when we will publish their work and create our own class pop up book, containing all their wonderful stories. In maths, we have now moved onto learning about multiplication and division. Please keep supporting your young people at home with their times table: it really does help them in their class learning. If anyone needs any support with this, please let us know, and we will be happy to help. In history, we have been learning all about the life and work of Mary Seacole. The children were quick to recognise the incredible contribution she made, in the face of the many difficulties and social injustices which she overcame. I am sure that the children would be keen to share what they have learnt about this remarkable, historic person, so please do ask them. Finally, Beech Class has become a new Quiet Room at lunchtimes, where those children in KS1 who would like to spend a quieter lunchtime away from the main playground, can come and work on mindful colouring. A huge thank you to all of those children in year 2 who have used this opportunity so well this week; they set a brilliant example to the reception and year 1 children who have attended. Well done to you all. Wishing you all a very enjoyable weekend. Mrs Murch and Mr Legg Hello,
A huge thank you to all of you who were able to attend Monday's meeting this week. It was lovely to see so many of you and to have chance to begin to get to know the year 2 families. We understand that the time of the meeting may have been difficult for some parents and carers, so if you were unable to attend, please do contact us here in school if you have any questions or queries. Once again, this week has been very positive with all the year 2 children working hard and doing well. We have been continuing to develop our writing skills in English and have been developing a deeper understanding of our text 'The Bear and the Piano'. We hope you enjoyed hearing the online narrated version last week! To support our mathematics work with money, we have opened a year 2 'shop' where learners can handle money (plastic coins of course) and work through various problems using these concrete apparatus, which really helps consolidate their understanding. The children have really enjoyed learning how to use charcoal as a drawing medium in art, and have started to develop their confidence to review and improve their work. There have been many super moments, but music was a real highlight of the week, as the children had their first experience of playing djembe drums as a whole class. Everyone worked together brilliantly to play different rhythms in time with each other, and they have begun to understand how these rhythms are represented in musical notation. Unfortunately due to internet issues at school we're unable to attach any pictures of this on the blog, however some were posted on Class Dojo earlier in the week for you all to see how much the children enjoyed this session. We are all looking forward to next week's djembe session already! Wishing you all a very good weekend. Mrs Murch and Mr Legg Hello everyone,

It has been a great first full week back, and already everyone is working well, looking to do their best, and trying to improve their learning. Well done. In English, we have been starting to get to know our new text 'The Bear and the piano'. We have been learning about conjunctions to link clauses, contractions and how to use apostrophes. We have been learning how to write letters and news reports. The children have responded brilliantly and are really enjoying this lovely book! I you'd like find out more about our text, click on the link below: The Bear and the Piano by David Litchfield I Read Aloud I Books for kids about music (youtube.com) In mathematics, we have been learning how to add, subtract and solve problems with money.
